What is a Nylon Light Duty Anchor?
Nylon light-duty anchors are a very common choice for construction and DIY projects due to their variety and versatility. Typically used to secure lighter items on surfaces like walls or ceilings, these anchors are specifically designed for tasks with lower load-bearing requirements. Nylon is a popular material for these anchors due to its durability, resistance to corrosion, and cost-effectiveness.
Types of Nylon Light Duty Anchors
Nylon Nail-Ins (Dome Head, Round Head, and Countersunk), Available with Zinc Yellow and Stainless-Steel Drive Nails.
Nylon nail-ins come with different head styles - dome, round, or countersunk - catering to varying applications and desired aesthetics. They are installed by placing them into pre-drilled holes and hammering the protruding nail, forcing the nylon body outwards creating the expansion forces to secure the anchor in the hole.
General Purpose Nylon Plugs
Plugs are versatile anchors used for a variety of lightweight objects and various substrates. They are inserted into pre-drilled holes and anchored with an appropriately sized bolt or screw to provide the expansion forces and result in a secure fastening.
Screw-in Insulation Fixings
These anchors utilise aggressive nylon thread designed to screw-in to soft substrates such as ridged insulation board. These fixings then leave a secure nylon anchor point where a screw or bolt can be fixed directly into the screw-in insulation fixing anchor point.
Each of these nylon anchors is tailored for lighter applications, allowing users to choose the most suitable head style, steel type, or base material suitability for the applications needs. Adhering to the technical guidelines, ensuring correct, hole and screw/bolt size will ensure effective anchoring.

How to use Nylon Light Duty Anchors
Nylon Nail Ins
- Using a hammer drill and an appropriately sized carbide-tipped drill bit to create a hole in the base material, ensuring it is deeper (2 x diameter of anchor) than the anticipated embedment depth.
-
Remove any debris and dust from the drilled hole.
-
Place the anchor through the fixture hole and into the base material hole.
-
Utilise a hammer to drive the nail into the anchor until the nail head is level with the top of the anchor.
General Purpose Nylon plugs
-
Using a drill and an appropriately sized drill bit to create a hole in the base material, ensuring it is deeper (2 x diameter of anchor) than the anticipated embedment depth of the plug.
-
Remove any debris and dust from the drilled hole.
-
Place the plug into the drilled hole in the base material behind the fixture.
-
With an appropriately sized screw or bolt (see technical guideline of suitability online) insert in the screw or bolt through the fixture and into the plug. Fasten to expand the plug within the hole and secure the anchor and fixture.
Screw-In Insulation Fixings
-
Using a drill driver, put the screw-in nylon insulation fixing on the drill, press firmly against the ridged insulation board and install, making sure to stop when the head is flush with the board.
-
Place fixture over the board, lining up the fixture hole and the female anchor point now available from the screw-in insulation fixing.
-
With an appropriately sized screw or bolt (see technical guideline of suitability online) insert in the screw or bolt through the fixture and into the screw-in insulation fixing. Fasten to secure the fixture.
